Legal solutions for artists and creative businesses

About the artist
After many years working in black and white, award-winning photojournalist Britt Lee is experimenting with color in the wilderness of the Southwest. Her favorite word is “amazing”.
Photography is about sharing: sharing others’ lives through photojournalism, or our own experiences and world view through color, composition and subject matter. Britt’s favorite compliment was “I like your work. It’s weird!” “Yes!” Britt thought, “someone understands me.”
Legal Art solution
A fellow artist once invited Britt to view one of Britt’s photographs the artist had purchased and hung in her home. During the conversation the artist stated matter-of-factly, “I absolutely love your photo notecards. Thank goodness I have a color printer.” Britt was too dumbfounded to speak, much less articulate her objection. Using Jaeger's and Legal Art’s advice, Britt now incorporates copyright statements on her sales receipts. This reminds people that they cannot alter, change or copy her photos without her express permission. Purchasers can resell the unaltered image, but they do not have the right to change, copy or modify the image.
